Internet2 Technology Exchange (TechEX) 2018

Globus presented a session and demo at this year' TechEX18 in Orlando -- see below to access the slides and read details from the session:

  • Title: Managing Protected and Controlled Data with Globus -- click here to view slides
  • Date: Tuesday, October 16
  • Time: 1:40- 2:30 p.m.
  • Abstract: Globus is rapidly becoming the de facto standard for data management at R&E institutions. As adoption grows, many organizations are requiring that Globus provide the necessary infrastructure to manage protected information, leveraging the same reliable, easy-to-use capabilities currently employed for open data. Recent enhancements to the service, combined with a major overhaul of operating procedures and the ability to enter into business associate agreements (BAAs), have made Globus suitable for handling data that may contain protected health or personally identifiable information (PHI/PII), as well as controlled but unclassified information. Beyond securely moving, replicating, and sharing data, Globus can now facilitate secure data collaboration for multi-institutional trials. We will review and demonstrate these new features and discuss the technical challenges we faced and lessons learned from retrofitting a large-scale cloud service for compliance. We will also describe how new and established Globus users can take advantage of these capabilities with minimal impact to their existing research computing infrastructure, and will solicit input from attendees on future enhancements.

Internet2’s annual Technology Exchange conference is a premier technical event in the global R&E community, convening the community’s technology visionaries—including chief technologists, scientists, engineers, architects, operators and students from around the U.S. and the globe.

Technology Exchange content focuses primarily on implementation challenges, best common practices, and future directions. For 2018, we expect to offer a broad range of community-led instructional offerings on Monday, followed by a full program spanning multiple topic areas from 8:00 am on Tuesday running through 5:00 pm on Thursday.
