April 2012 User of the Month: Dan Kozak

May 09, 2012   |  Raj Kettimuthu

For April's User of the Month, I am happy to announce that the winner is Dan Kozak from Caltech.

Dan Kozak is the Data Archive Administrator for LIGO, an NSF funded gravitational wave research project (www.ligo.caltech.edu). He has used Globus Online to move ~120TB of data from Caltech in Pasadena to LIGO's two remote observatory sites (in Hanford, WA and Livingston, LA) during April as part of an ongoing effort to replicate data from LIGO's central archive at Caltech to the remote sites after their data archive systems were upgraded. Dan has achieved weekly data rates averaging 1 Gb/sec. To date the individual files transferred have all been in the ~150-300 MB range. "Globus Online was selected to do this job because the gridftp protocol makes good use of the network bandwidth and Globus Online itself handles the vast majority of the bookkeeeping, was quick to configure, and has proven itself reliable." says Dan. Dan's use case is testimony to the fact that Globus Online is easy to use, highly performant and reliable. Congratulations Dan, and thanks for your continued use of Globus Online!
