GlobusWorld 2019 Program Announced

NIH, Internet2, Argonne National Lab, and NCSA are among the presenters at annual user conference

Chicago, ILMarch 26, 2019 — Globus, the leading research data management service, today announced the lineup of speakers for its eighth annual user conference, GlobusWorld 2019, held this year on May 1-2, 2019 in Chicago, IL.

The program includes guest keynote addresses by Tom Barton, Senior Consultant for Cybersecurity and Data Privacy at The University of Chicago and Internet2; and Bobby Kasthuri, Neuroscience Researcher at Argonne National Laboratory and Assistant Professor in Neurobiology at The University of Chicago.

A host of research computing leaders will also present lightning talks on data management challenges and solutions, including: National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, European Bioinformatics Institute, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), University of Pittsburgh, Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences, University of South Dakota, Oak Ridge National Lab, Open Storage Network, and more.

Globus co-founders Ian Foster and Steve Tuecke will present the opening “State of the Union” keynote, highlighting recent achievements, upcoming capabilities, and future plans.

“This year’s GlobusWorld comes at a time of excitement and change in the field of research computing and data management,” said Ian Foster, Globus co-founder and director of Argonne National Laboratory's Data Science and Learning Division. “Speakers will address topics ranging from secure handling of sensitive personal data to brain mapping techniques and how they will benefit from Globus and resources like Aurora. It’s a unique forum to share ideas and experiences to help peers in the community manage research data as effectively as possible.”

Globus product experts will also lead a day of tutorials on topics such as managing HIPAA and other protected data, automating research data workflows, Globus integrations (e.g. JupyterHub, Django), and more. ESnet will also give a tutorial on “Maximizing Performance and Network Utility with a Science DMZ.”

Now in its eight year, GlobusWorld brings together over 100 researchers, systems administrators, developers and IT leaders from top computing centers, labs and universities around the world. The event is designed to provide new insights into managing research data and storage at scale, automating data management, and building cutting-edge applications, portals, gateways, and services.
